Look what mummy can do...

Third post for the day!
I am doing crafty well!

I seem to often stumble across a mighty big problem in my house with 3 children and it is always on who's artwork is going to feature on the fridge for the week.  I tried adjusting the routine to daily but if one child didn't bring home a new project the debate would then be 'but Chloe's was on the fridge for 2 nights so I want mine on the fridge for 2!' It is a never ending constant debating circle and I believe a battle that I will never win :$

So ... While having a peak in DH's shed out the back I stumbled across a plank of wood.  I looked at it and thought I can do such better things with it then what ever use he is intending to do with it, and anyway, I think it is left over from when he added planks to the bed so its use for him is finished.
So, out I dragged it out while stealing his handsaw as well on the way out :$ (Sssshhh don't tell - but I really don't think he would have been happy if I got the electric saw out and started playing with that too as he never gets back what I 'borrow' :) lol

So I turned a plank of old wood into this ...
(Forgive the 1st picture - bad lighting)

This one is for my little Ms Emilie - She can't really 'debate' with the other 2 so I thought it fair she gets hers first.  She is a mini me so shabby chic was the way to go! Love that girl :)) I covered the wood with paper and ink distressed all the edges, and around the side I added a gorgeous lace and ribbon trim (as it is going on the wall you can see the sides).  As the piece is larger than 12 inch and I had a paper join, I added the ribbon strip over the join - You can not notice the slight variation in the paper pattern *yeah*.

The flower is hand made from scraps that I have placed on-top of some soft baby pink fishnet and behind that again I have added some feathers.  I had to add the feathers as Emilie just loves playing with these while we craft together.  The pearls steams I threaded onto wire and fixed with my hot glue gun.  I added 3 pegs as some of the things she brings home can be heavy with stuff like macaroni and also it can hang an A4 sheet in landscape or portfolio view.

The chain is another recycle reuse item and it is from one of my broken hanging pots that the sun deteriorated and no longer hangs.  I thought of adding eyelet hooks to hold the chain but being shabby and rustic I though the 'round horseshoe nail thingys - another thing 'borrowed' from hubby would look really cool and I think they do.

The ribbon covering the join made a great separation point and I decided as the piece is designed to focus on the kids artwork that I would keep that side to a minimal so not to take the distraction away from their lovely artwork.  The wording I typed up in work and printed onto some DP and matted on some ink distressed brown cardstock.

Righty oh ... I have another 2 of these to make now ...
Me and my bright ideas :P
And silly me has had the thought that Nanny would love one of these to showcase the kids works too! Oh my golly - time to STOP thinking!
Thanks for stopping by!
