Terrific Tuesdays to you all!
I am quickly sailing through to share with you a Dragon tag I made this morning.
Yesterday Mr Postman was ever so kind to me and delivered my goodies from my latest shopping spree from Visible Image! (I know, I am naughty) And Mark threw in a surprise Dragon stamp for me to have a play with!
This stamp had me stumped when I first looked at it ...
Oriental is generally not a 'theme' I would craft with so ....
With the challenge set just at that *to use this stamp!*...
I had to ink him up, get out of my comfort zone & do something with him!
I'll be honest, I had no clue where this was going to go when I sat down to play. All I could fathom in my head was a 'Dragon swimming in a gold river' kinda like thing! I started with covering my tag with many layers of metallic gold embossing powder, I continually built up the layers, focusing more on where I wanted my stamped dragon image to be to get a heavier layer for the impression of the stamp. With the embossing powder still 'wet', I then inked the Dragon up with Sepia Archival Ink & then stamped, leaving the dragon impression in the embossing powder.
This was trial & error for me as I have never done this technique before! & was afraid my stamp would 'get stuck' without some lubrication. For the record it won't! I had several attempts at stamping the dragon, if you don't like the result, you just remelt the embossing powder & stamp again! I tried stamping the dragon several other ways too, with no ink, black ink & the sepia, but I really liked the marbled effect the sepia ink left behind in the impression so I stuck with it.
I raided my horded stash and found a Chinese coin that I placed around the eyelet of the tag with some burgundy seam binding & added some black embossed flourishes embellished with red pearls. Along the bottom I added some rich burgundy ruffled ribbon, the gold & red ribbon & bow & some sparkly red rhinestones. And to finish it all off, a tied three fancy silver buttons together and placed them in the middle of the bow.
I do love how this finished up!
So much so, next shopping spree some oriental themed embellishments
will be on the list so I can ink the dragon up for a card!
While I am here!
